Abaca is a plant native to the Philippines, but in the past its cultivation was also introduced to South-East Asia and Latin America. The best species from which to obtain fibers is Musa textilis, a type of banana. Abaca is used for extremely flexible, light and resistant canvases, fabrics and cordage. It can be cleaned with a damp sponge or with a dry stain remover.
